Question by TankGirl aKa 15KayLaLa_NumB: Dental school or ROTC?
I just don’t know what to do. I know I want to go into infantry, but I also want to help families as a dentist. I’ve looked at dental school in the military but I’m concerned that if I get training as a dentist I wont be able to go into infantry

If I went the ROTC route would they even pay for dental school even if I have a bachelors degree? What if my school doesn’t have ROTC, can I just travel to another school for training after class?

I knows its a lot of question so thanks in advance!

Hmn, you are right that it is a lot of questions.

I’ve looked at dental school in the military but I’m concerned that if I get training as a dentist I wont be able to go into infantry….

That is only partially correct. If you are recruited as a dental student, you have to become a dentist. This program offers a nice scholarship, monthly pay check and other benefits. By the time you graduate, you are basicly promoted to Captian. (BIG $ $ )
Or you could do the ROTC route. If your school, or a nearby school, offers ROTC you can do it. The last 2 years of your dental degree you take the ROTC classes nessary to be comissioned as a 2nd Lt. This route allows you to compete for a posting as a Infantry Officer. There is financial assitance avaliable this route, but beware that you must be comissioned before your 29th b-day to receive full scholarships.

If I went the ROTC route would they even pay for dental school even if I have a bachelors degree?

Some financial assitance (perhaps a partial ride) is avaliable. Just beware of the individuals programs requirements. I beleive you must graduate before your 29th Birthday to receive a full ROTC scholarship.

Since you seem determined to receive a comission as an Infantry Lt, before/during/after your stint in dental school, have you considered OCS? There are some financial benefits that may be avaliable if you choose this route through your local Reserve/National guard Recrtuier.
