Question by : Is anyone in the Dental field?
I plan on going into the dental field..I’m not sure if it’s what I want to do for sure but I have always been interested in teeth and stuff like that. I plan on going to training to become a dental assistant first to see if I like it or not. If I do I plan on going to school to become a dental Hygienist. I was wondering if the extra years of schooling is worth becoming an actual dentist. And what the difference really is. Or if anyone is in that profession do they like it or recommend it? I graduated in May and my counselor really didn’t know what she was doing and hasn’t helped at all with college so I have no clue what to do..so any advice, information, suggestions would be much appreciated! =]

Hey girl! The dental field is awesome. First of all, go shadow a dentist. Call your dentist or call around and I’m sure they’ll be glad to have you watch them for a day. After you do this you can ultimately decide if it’s what you want to do. I personally would recommend going to dental school. Of course it has the top pay of the three but it also takes 8 years to complete. 4 years in undergrad probably in some sort of biology and 4 more years in dental school. I have my associates degree in dental assisting which takes 2 years and Hygiene also takes 2 years. Some states offer a program where if you have 2 years assisting experience your dentist that you work for can sponsor(and some will even pay!) you to go to hygiene school. Like one weekend every month so you can work and get your hygiene license at the same time. I hope I made sense and I hope this helps!
