Q&A: Dental Hygienist job outlook?
No Experience Necessary
Question by Alicia: Dental Hygienist job outlook?
I know that I want to get into the medical field, and I would really love working in a small office directly with patients. A dental hygienist sounds just like the job I want, but I’ve heard it’s physically demanding and stressful. I’ve been reading a lot about it, but I’d like to hear from someone with first-hand knowledge. Is this a good field to got into? Are there a lot of jobs? And most of all, do you like it?
Answer by An education is a good idea
Do NOT major in dental hygiene! There are no jobs and the only (very few) job openings are only 1 or 2 days of work a week. And most dentists do NOT give hygienists any benefits, not even health insurance. So major in something else, trust me! Every thing you may look up online might say dental hygiene is a great career that is in demand, BUT that is not true!
Yes it is a physically demanding job and stressful. You won’t be able to make a living on this job. Hygienists traditionally are married women, with or without kids, who are on their husband’s health insurance and only working part time. So do not become a hygienist.
