Depending on your area and the demand you are looking at somewhere between $ 30-35 per hr if you lived in my area. This will depend on you working full-time vs part-time and if you receive benefits or not. This is on average- some can earn more, some less.

From what I have been told it is the Dentists office that makes the difference- some might offer less pay per hr, but give you more vacation time.

You can always check around and look a some of the salary calculators to see if you are getting a reasonable answer- Salary.com will provide you with an estimate base on zip code (from # years experience). You can then play with the hourly wage and deduction amounts to see what you would bring home in pay.

Good Luck.

Question by : Is a Dental assisting career entry level?
I am interested in dental assisting & would like some pointers from other people that chose this career . I am fixing to be a single mother after spending many years at home with my children. Would this be a good career for someone with some college but in her late30′s?

Well, it’s not like you can magically get promoted to become a full fledged dentist after a few years, it doesn’t work that way.

Those kinds of jobs are considered to be mid-level jobs where you start at that position earning a certain amount of cash, might earn some more over time if you work in the field long enough. However, you would never become a full fledged dentist as such unless you go back to school, pass the DCAT exam and complete a dentistry degree to become state licensed.

You would have to take a look at universities near where you live that offer dentist hygienist degrees or other similar degrees, see which college credits you already have can be transferred and complete the remaining credits to become certified.
