Question by Southern Belle: What classes do I need?
What classes do I need to be a Dental Hygienist?
I graduated high school already. I didn’t take chemistry or anything advanced. What classes will I have to take in college? I want to get my associates degree. If it helps, I will most likely be attending Wallace State Community College. I want to take 15 hour/week classes. Given this, how long will it take to finish my schooling? Please, someone help me out! Ten points.

I recommend not going in this field right now because the job market is bad.
But to answer your question most colleges require:
Algebra college level or higher, Microbiology, biology, chemistry, Anat.&Phy. 1 and 2, and a few other courses to even APPLY to a program.
Please consult the college advisors at the school you plan to apply to.

It took me about 2 years to complete my prereqs and another 2 years to get into a program!

  • MEB Publishing says:

In general, you will need some math, some biology and chemistry at a minimum. However, as you are in Alabama, I recommend you look into the Alabama Dental Hygienist Program. This is a practical apprenticeship program combined with weekend classes at the UAB. Might be a better option than going through the program at Wallace St CC.

You can find full details about the Alabama Dental Hygienist Program at http://www.dentalhygienisttraininghq.com and then clicking on ‘Alabama’. Have a look!
