They say ‘if you love what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life’ — to go with one’s passion and the salary second The two jobs have different amounts of schooling involved and a pta would certainly make more money than a dental assistant, however, the pta can be both physically and emotionally draining (not that dental assistant doesn’t have a certain amount of stress either The pta needs to have completed an associate (2 year) degree from an accredited program as well as clinical fieldwork (hands-on) experience and pass a registration exam and a dental assistant may need a one year certificate (probably also clinical experience).
For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and search ‘dental assistants’, ‘physical therapist assistants’ or such.
Please steer clear of those private $ $ schools and instead opt for the county vo-tech school or community college as long as the program that you choose is accredited within the industry.
If uncertain as to which field to pursue, perhaps talk with people in the industry (making an appointment beforehand) and perhaps even ask to observe and/or perhaps volunteer: http://www.volunteermatch.org and there may also be a local hospital or nursing home that needs volunteers as well.
They say to pursue a job field that one would do for free
